Unplanned (unsanctioned) Deforestation
Definition
Unplanned or unsanctioned deforestation generally occurs as a result of socioeconomic forces that promote alternative uses of forested land, and the inability of institutions to control these activities. Examples include population growth, road expansion and other infrastructure developments often leads to subsistence food production and fuel wood gathering taking place on lands not designated for such activities.
