The FCPF and the ISFL of the World Bank and the UN-REDD Programme will organize a 90-minute session at Oslo Tropical Forest Forum with purpose of sharing key lessons and experiences from implementing REDD+ that are critical for designing the next generation of REDD+ financing .
It will showcase experiences from forests countries that have received REDD+ Results-Based Climate Finance, and how they are strengthening institutions and legal frameworks to deliver REDD+ results and thereby unlocking further payments for carbon credits.
These cases will present how a virtuous circle can be generated to enhance the implementation of sustainable land use measures, promote legal land tenure for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, and facilitate the potential of new sources of funding for forests that are crucial to achieve the objectives of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
The session will include experiences from the UN-REDD Programme on technical assistance to mobilize climate finance and implement policies to turn the tide on deforestation, the role of the World Bank in REDD+ financingarchitecture and links to the Bank’s Global Challenge Program on forests and its new umbrella trust funds such as SCALE, as well as the roles of the private sector, third-party bodies for results-based payments, and voluntarycarbon markets.
